Lal Kitab Kundli and Remedies
Lal Kitab, the Red Book, is a well known system of Indian astrology with its own way of reading a chart and its own simple remedies. It was written in Urdu in five volumes between 1939 and 1952 and is credited to Pandit Roop Chand Joshi. Its remedies, called upay, use everyday actions and objects rather than costly rituals, which is why it is popular in North India.

What the Lal Kitab report shows
- Lal Kitab Kundli. Your planets placed in the fixed Lal Kitab houses.
- Strong and weak planets. Which planets help you and which need care.
- Rin (karmic debts). Pitri Rin and the other debts the module finds from planet positions.
- Remedies. Simple upay for each planet that needs support.
How Lal Kitab differs from classical astrology
On this site the Lal Kitab page reads each planet by the house it occupies in the saved Kundli, counted from the ascendant. It does not build a separate fixed-Aries chart. The row then gives a condition, a short line and a conduct remedy for that planet.
Lal Kitab also looks closely at how planets affect each other from fixed house positions, at planets that are "asleep" because the houses that would activate them are empty, and at debts carried from past actions or family history.
About Lal Kitab remedies
Lal Kitab remedies are meant to be simple, cheap and done by the person themselves. Common examples are feeding a cow, a dog or birds, keeping a particular object at home, flowing certain items in running water, serving elders, or avoiding certain habits. Each remedy is linked to a specific planet in a specific house.
A few rules apply to all Lal Kitab remedies.
- Do one remedy at a time, usually for 40 or 43 days.
- Do remedies in daylight, between sunrise and sunset.
- Do not do a remedy for a planet that is already strong and helping you.
- A remedy should never harm anyone or cost more than you can afford.
